You've painstakingly set up your Google Analytics events but have not seen any results being recorded? Then you might want to check up on your set up. Don't worry, setting up and troubleshooting these events are not a daunting task, especially with Google Tag Manger. This quick and easy guide will show you how to troubleshoot Google Analytics (GA4) Events with Google Tag Manager!

How to Troubleshoot Google Analytics (GA4) Events with Google Tag Manager:

Before you get started, please note:

➡️ GA4 events may take up to 24 hours to show up

➡️ There need to be at least ONE event recorded. If no event is showing up, perhaps it means no one completed the action. To test, you can take the action and verify if the event shows up.

To Troubleshoot:

  1. Navigate to your Google Analytics

  2. Navigate to Admin > Data display > Events

  3. Login to your Google Tag Manager

  4. Click on Preview

  5. Paste the URL of the page where the event lives in and click on Connect

    • Two tabs will open:

      • Your website connected to the Tag Assistant

      • Tag Assistant

  6. Open the Tag Assistant

  7. Take the event action on your website connected to the Tag Assistant

  8. Navigate back to the Tag Assistant and check if your Event is firing normally (check if you can find your Event under Tags fired)

    • If not, open the Tags not fired, click on the event and check why the trigger is not working under Firing Triggers

  9. Navigate back to Google Tag Manager, fix your Trigger and check again
