How to View the Performance of Your Assets Groups in Performance Max Campaigns (Google Ads)

If you're doing Performing Max campaigns in Google Ads, then you'll be glad to hear that not everything is a mystery in this type of campaign. Though reporting is still fairly limited in Performance Max campaigns, there is still a fair bit of data that you can mine and use to optimize your campaign. In particular, you can view and compare the performance of all your asset groups. This easy, step-by-step guide (with screenshots!) will show you how to view the performance of your Assets Groups in your Google Ads Performance Max campaigns!

Before we get started, in case you find yourself in need of some video guidance, here's a quick 2-minute tutorial from XYZ Lab's Youtube Channel!

Topics Covered:

Step 1: Navigate to your Google Ads Account

Step 2️: Select your Performance Max Campaign

Step 3️: Navigate to Asset Group

You would usually land on this display which is the Summary view.

Step 4️: Switch View to Table

Click on the Table to change the view to table form.

Step 5️: Click on Columns and add the metrics you would like to see

You can click on the dropdown under Performance and Conversions and select the metrics that you would like to see on the table.

You can also rearrange the order of the metrics (columns) by dragging and dropping them in order. Once that's done, you can click "Apply".

Now you will see a table with all the performance metrics of each Asset Group you selected above.

And that's it! Now you can treat these Asset Groups the same way you do with an Ad Group. You can know which asset groups are performing better and use this data to test anything you want to trial and compare between asset groups. For instance, you can try different audience signals (segmentation), creatives, or copies and see which asset group performs the best.

I have the same problem, did you by any chance find a solution yourself already?

What if the performence metrics don't show up inside columns-menu? I have multiple accounts where this works, and multiple account where this does not work and i can't find a solution.
