Frequently Asked Questions on Adding Metrics in your Google Ads Report

Why should I add custom metrics to my Google Ads report?

Adding custom metrics allows you to track performance more precisely and focus on KPIs that matter most to your goals — such as cost per lead, ROAS, or engagement rate. Customizing reports also helps you identify trends and optimize campaigns faster.

How do I add new metrics to my Google Ads report?

Log in to your Google Ads account → Campaigns, Ad Groups, or Keywords tab.

Click the Columns icon (⋮) above your performance table.

Select Modify Columns.

Browse through categories such as Performance, Conversions, Competitive Metrics, or Attribution.

Check the boxes for the metrics you want to include.

Click Apply.
Your table will refresh with the new metrics visible immediately.

Can I save a custom view with my preferred metrics?

Yes. After adding your desired metrics:

Click Save Column Set → Save as New Column Set.

Name it (e.g., “Lead Generation KPIs” or “E-Commerce Metrics”).
This allows you to easily switch between different reporting views without reselecting metrics each time.

What are best practices when adding metrics to Google Ads reports?

Focus on metrics that align with your campaign objectives (e.g., CPA and Conversions for lead gen, ROAS and Value/Conv. for e-commerce).

Avoid overcrowding your table — stick to 8–10 key metrics for clarity.

Use custom metrics (via the Reports tab) for deeper analysis.

Regularly review and adjust your column setup as your campaigns evolve.
