Frequently Asked Questions on How to view Asset Group Performance in Performance Max Campaigns

What is an asset group in PMax?

An asset group = a themed bundle of creatives (headlines, images, videos, descriptions, etc.) + optionally linked products (for retail) that the AI mixes & serves across Google’s networks. You can have multiple asset groups inside one campaign, each targeting different themes/audiences/offers.

How do I view Asset Group Performance?

Go to Google Ads → Campaigns.

Select your Performance Max campaign.

Click the Asset groups tab on the left.

Switch to the Table view to see performance metrics.

Click View details on any asset group to see deeper performance for individual assets and combinations.

Can I Pause or Optimize Asset Groups?

Yes, but carefully.

You can pause poor-performing groups, but always check contribution to conversions first.

It’s usually better to refresh creatives (replace weak images or headlines) rather than removing entire groups.

Review at least every 2–4 weeks before making decisions.

What are the Key Metrics to Track?

Conversions / Conversion Value – shows effectiveness.

Cost / Cost per Conversion – efficiency of spend.

ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) – total value generated vs cost.

Impressions, Clicks, CTR – engagement and visibility.

Performance Labels (Best, Good, Low, Pending) – asset ranking within the group.
