Frequently Asked Questions on Bulk Uploading Negative Placements in Google Ads

What are negative placements in Google Ads?

Negative placements are websites, apps, or YouTube channels where you don’t want your ads to appear. Adding them helps you avoid irrelevant traffic, protect brand image, and improve overall campaign performance by focusing spend on higher-quality inventory.

How do I bulk upload negative placements in Google Ads?

Prepare a CSV or Google Sheet with a single column listing all URLs, app IDs, or YouTube channels to exclude.

Log in to your Google Ads dashboard → Tools & Settings → Bulk Actions → Uploads.

Click + Upload File → Choose File, then select your prepared list.

Choose Placements Exclusions as the upload type.

Review the preview for any errors, then click Apply.
Your negative placements will now be added in bulk to your selected campaigns or ad groups.

Can I apply bulk negative placements across multiple campaigns?

Yes. You can create a Placement Exclusion List and apply it to multiple campaigns. Alternatively, during upload, select Apply to multiple campaigns so all chosen campaigns share the same exclusion data.

What are best practices for managing negative placements?

Review your Placement Report weekly to identify poor-performing sites.

Exclude placements with low engagement or high cost per conversion.

Use Shared Library Exclusion Lists for easy bulk management.

Keep a separate list for brand safety exclusions (e.g., controversial or sensitive categories).
