Frequently Asked Questions on Changing Location Targeting in Google Ads
How do I change the location targeting for my campaign in Google Ads?
Go to your Google Ads dashboard → Campaigns → Settings → Locations. From there, you can edit your target areas by typing specific countries, cities, regions, or postal codes. You can also select Advanced search to use radius targeting or bulk add multiple locations. Once done, click Save to apply the changes.
Can I include and exclude locations at the same time?
Yes. Google Ads lets you target certain areas while excluding others within the same campaign. For example, you can target “Singapore” but exclude “Sentosa Island.” This helps you refine your reach and prevent wasted ad spend in irrelevant areas.
Does changing location targeting affect my existing campaign performance?
Yes, it can. Adjusting location settings may change your traffic volume and conversion rates depending on where your target users are located. If you narrow your targeting, you may see fewer impressions but higher relevance; if you expand it, your reach grows but may dilute performance.
What’s the difference between presence and interest-based location targeting?
Google Ads gives you two main options:
Presence: Targets users physically located in your selected area.
Presence or Interest: Targets users who are either in your target area or show interest in it (for example, tourists searching from abroad).
Choosing the right option depends on whether you want to focus on local intent or global visibility.
