Frequently Asked Questions on running a YOUTUBE SHORTS ONLY Campaign in Google Ads

What is a YouTube Shorts–only campaign in Google Ads?

A YouTube Shorts–only campaign focuses your video ads exclusively within the YouTube Shorts feed, allowing you to reach users watching short-form, vertical videos. It’s ideal for driving brand awareness, engagement, or quick calls-to-action through snackable, mobile-first content.

How do I create a YouTube Shorts–only campaign?

Go to your Google Ads dashboard → + New Campaign.

Select a Video campaign type, then choose a goal such as Brand Awareness or Product Consideration.

In the campaign settings, select YouTube Shorts placements only.

Upload a vertical (9:16) video under 60 seconds, with captions and a strong call-to-action.

Set your budget, targeting, and bid strategy, then click Publish.
Your ads will appear seamlessly in the Shorts feed as users scroll.

Can I use regular YouTube video ads for Shorts campaigns?

No. You must use vertical video creatives optimized for mobile — ideally 15 to 60 seconds long. Horizontal or square videos won’t appear correctly in the Shorts feed.

What are best practices for running effective YouTube Shorts campaigns?

Capture attention within the first 2 seconds.

Use bold visuals and captions since many users watch without sound.

Include a strong CTA, such as “Shop Now” or “Learn More.”

Test multiple creatives and monitor performance in the Video Analytics section.
