How to setup Content Groups in Google Analytics
PRE-REQUISITES:
➡️ Google Tag Manager has to be installed in ALL website pages
➡️ GA4 should be installed with Google Tag Manager
1) Login to Google Tag Manager
2) Navigate to Variables
3) Select User-Defined Variables and add a new variable
4) Name your new variable Content Group
5) Select Variable Configuration as Regex Table
6) In the Input Variable field, select {{Page Path}}
7) Add new rows to the RegEx Table section
8) Select {{Page Path}} as your input variable
9) Under Pattern, enter a regular expression to identify page path for each content group
10) Under Output, name your Content Groups (this is the name that will show up in your Google Analytics)
11) Select Set Default Values and enter "Other group" as the default content group if nothing matches
12) In Advanced Settings, uncheck the Full Matches Only and Enable Capture Groups and Replace Functionality checkboxes
13) Save
14) Navigate to Tags and open your Google Analytics: GA4 Configuration tag
15) Under Configuration settings, add a new Configuration parameter
16) Under Configuration parameter type "content_group"
17) Under Value field, enter {{Content Group}}
18) Save your changes
19) SUbmit and Publish your Google Tag Manager Container
