Frequently Asked Questions on Setting up Google Ads Conversions with Google Tag Manager

Why use GTM to setup Google Ads conversions?

GTM makes tracking faster, cleaner, and scalable, especially if you run multiple campaigns or want to track multiple actions.

How do I set up a Google Ads conversion in GTM?

Create a Conversion Action in Google Ads, then in GTM add a new tag → Google Ads Conversion Tracking, input the Conversion ID & Label, and set a trigger for the desired action.

How do I test if the Google Ads conversion tag works?

Use GTM’s Preview Mode or Google Tag Assistant to ensure the tag fires correctly when the conversion action happens.

Do I need a separate tag for every Google Ads campaign?

No, conversion tags are linked to actions, not campaigns, so one tag can work across multiple campaigns if the same action is tracked.
